It’s time to dust off the social media hats and spring clean your online presence.
As the sun graces the windows for the first time in what seems like a year of dark and rainy days, I’m feeling very motivated to get out the swiffer and get cleaning.
As a first year marketing student at BCIT, my professors are constantly reminding us, clean up your Facebook. Many students here are fresh out of high school where Facebook was used to start and end relationships with a million status updates, post all your big drunken moments and of course, prove you really can do a keg stand in your underwear. Even if that was years ago, evidence could still be lingering in the deep dark caves of Timeline. Get that broom out.
3 Easy Cleaning Tips:
- Go through your pictures and delete or change the privacy on any indecent images
- Go through pictures of you and untag yourself from any unsightly images. If it’s particularly bad, ask the pic owner to remove it.
- Go through your timeline and delete or hide any unsavoury posts such as, “OMG. I’m so in luv. Hope he like a$ks me to like prom 2nite.”
Many employers are now searching Facebook to get an idea of your character. Some say it’s better information than you can get from personality testing. So take the time to go over your profile and make sure you’ve got your best foot forward.
